AERC WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

On 1 September 2018, AERC welcomed our new Executive Director, Professor Njuguna Ndung’u. Professor Ndung’u is well known to the AERC network as a trainer and researcher; having served as the AERC Director of Training in the period 2003-2007. Njuguna Ndung’u is coming back to the AERC family with a wealth of policy making experience to take this precious African success story to the next level of excellence.

Over the years, Njuguna Ndung’u has held a variety of policy, academic, and advisory positions. He is the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), where he successfully completed two, full 4-year terms from 2007-2015. His tenure saw the rapid rise of Kenya in the financial inclusion space with global recognition stemming from the pioneering and transformative M-Pesa. He is also credited with creating a legal policy framework for fintech innovations in Kenya.

“AERC has nurtured an enduring, integrated capacity building framework anchored in three pillars: research, collaborative graduate training, and policy outreach. I look forward to enhancing and extending these pillars across the continent and engaging each of you to ensure the organisation continues to meet the needs of our stakeholders,” said Professor Njuguna………
